COUNSELING

Why pay a therapist when I can talk for free?

Happiness, Success, and Peace of Mind are Priceless.

Although you may (or may not) have a good friend you can talk to about your problems, at the end of the day, simply talking is not enough. Change, healing and growth require action and a trained professional can help you chart out an action plan that actually works for you!

Counseling is about partnering with someone (such as myself) to resolve problems that make you feel stressed and drained emotionally by interfering with your happiness, success, and ability to function. This may include issues such as anxiety or depression, trauma, relationships and much more.

In counseling, we talk with a focus to gain clarity, self-awareness, learn new skills and take control of one’s life. As your therapist, I do more than simply listening; I aim to provide you with the correct support and tools to obtain your goals.

Together we can and definitely will tackle the obstacles that are keeping you from functioning at your fullest potential!

Depression

“Just get yourself together”- Haven’t you heard that often from well- meaning friends and family members?

Women are supposed to be strong.

We are supposed to always wear a smile and keep it all together, right?

Wrong!

Depression is a state that affects every fiber of your being. It alters you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It affects your work, home, family and even your friends.

Although you may feel alone, you really aren’t! Depression is a powerful condition that comes in many forms and affects about 9 percent of American adults. Women are 70% more likely than men to experience depression. It is important to know that depression can increase your risk for other illnesses. Alternatively, sometimes dealing with an illness can also lead to depression. Many studies have also found being divorced, separated, or widowed to be closely linked to depression.

Depression can increase your risk for other illnesses and dealing with an illness can even lead to depression. Many studies have also found being divorced, separated, or widowed to be closely linked to depression.

So, how will you know if you’re depressed?

Those suffering from depression may experience:

  • Feelings & thoughts of emptiness, hopelessness or despair
  • Intense and prolonged sadness
  • Crying Spells
  • Guilt
  • Low energy
  • Increased sleepiness or difficulty sleeping
  • Increased anger & irritability
  • Low self-esteem or feelings of worthlessness
  • A decrease in energy for grooming and bathing
  • An increase or decrease in appetite

“I’vе hаd enough. I саn’t tаkе іt аnуmоrе!” “I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I just feel sad” “He doesn’t understand, it’s not that simple” “I just feel so tired” “I’m so tired of being strong” “I don’t know what it feels like to be happy” “I have everything a girl could wish for" "I have no right to feel so down”

Anxiety

We all have moments when it feels like we just can’t stop ourselves from worrying. It could be over bills, an upcoming speech or presentation or the problems of a family member. Life is filled with responsibilities and uncomfortable situations that have a way of making us cringe just from the thought of them.

For some of us, the everyday anxiousness and worries are unrelenting, excessive and even scary. Maybe you have anxious thoughts that you feel incapable of disconnecting from, even when things are going well. Perhaps, you experience out of the blue panic attacks, racing thoughts, trouble breathing or intense fears.  It could be that you avoid driving, large crowds, or going to new places in an effort to control your anxiousness.

Anxiety strikes women at approximately twice the rate as it does men and can interfere with relationships, sleeping, eating, work, school and your social life. It is actually one of the top reasons why individuals seek counseling. I assist clients experiencing anxiety to identify the source of their anxiousness and reduce (even eliminate) their anxiety symptoms. Many clients find that the self-reflective process of therapy helps them to better understand, disentangle and transform their anxiety.

Insurance Benefits

Even with the additional constraints posed by utilizing Insurance for counseling services, I do realize that this is the most feasible payment option for some clients. For that reason, I have paneled with and am considered an in network provider with BCBS and ACI EAP Services (typically services Winston-Salem Employees).

I am able to provide you with session invoices if you would like to utilize the out-of-network insurance option. You would be responsible for paying in full at each session and will later (depending on enrolled plan) be reimbursed by the insurance company.  Please note that your insurance company will request a psychiatric DSM 5 diagnosis, even when billing out-of-network.

If you choose to utilize insurance for counseling services. Please be sure to contact your insurance company first with the following questions prior to your first appointment.

  • Does my policy cover my initial assessment (code 90791), as well as ongoing individual (code 90837) and family (codes 90846 & 90847) therapy sessions?
  • Do I have a deductible? What is the amount? Have I met it?
  • Do I have a co-pay or co-insurance? What is the amount? Have I met it?
  • How many counseling sessions am I allowed per year?
  • Does my policy require pre-authorization?
